Chippewa Falls Middle School
A Learning Transformation
ATSR partnered with Chippewa Falls Area Unified School District to create a comprehensive vision for their educational future. We developed a strategic master plan that looked 25 years ahead, analyzing everything from enrollment projections to building lifecycles and potential property needs. This thoughtful planning helped the District secure a successful $65 million referendum to reimagine their middle school.
Creating Future-Ready Learning “Houses”
The renovation transformed outdated “bells-and-cells” classrooms into nine dynamic learning “Houses” designed specifically for middle school students. We converted traditional classrooms and hallways into flexible collaboration areas where students can learn, create, and work together in ways that prepare them for tomorrow’s challenges.
Each grade level (6-8) is organized into clusters with two Houses per grade, creating smaller learning communities within the larger school. We brought natural light deep into interior spaces through strategically placed skylights, creating bright, welcoming environments that support both learning and well-being.
The project included comprehensive mechanical system upgrades and a complete revitalization of all spaces, ensuring the building will serve students effectively for decades to come. Every design decision focused on supporting modern middle-level curriculum while creating adaptable spaces that can evolve with changing educational needs.
