Modernizing for 21st Century Learning

ATSR Planners Architects Engineers partnered with Burnsville High School and its community to transform an aging facility into a state-of-the-art learning environment. Our collaboration prioritized key updates for a more functional, engaging, and healthy school.

Key Transformations Include:

Enhanced Main Entrance & Student Services:

  • Relocated and combined the main office, guidance, career center, attendance, and dean’s offices at the front entrance.
  • Created a welcoming “school signature” entry point.

Improved Circulation & Wayfinding:

  • Developed a central “Student Commons” pathway providing direct access to the cafeteria, media center, and all student services.
  • Improved overall building flow with connections to the second floor.
  • Increased natural light through new skylights.

Collaborative & Flexible Spaces:

  • Designed staff planning areas for enhanced interaction and collaboration.
  • Created diverse student gathering spaces for safe socialization.

Indoor Environment Upgrades:

  • Significant improvements to indoor air quality, ventilation systems, and building finishes throughout.

New Athletic Facilities:

  • Addition of a Fieldhouse featuring a multi-station gym, elevated track, and fitness center.
